Check exposure to RE development - Posted by JT-IN

Check their exposure to RE development loans to builders in the south. It seems that the experts are calling for both of these bank stocks to underperform the mkt… and the fact that some of the builders are bound to default will mean larger problems ahead that haven’t yet been disclosed.

Investing in either bank stock seems like a high risk investment, that unless you knew some info for sure, I can’t imagine speculating on these and other bank stocks right now. Too much negative downward trend for the industry, and then specific risk of large loan defaults could send any of these stocks tumbling into the abiss.

But certainly NO expert in the securities mkt.

Yes the large national banks will begin to eat up these deposit strong loan light banks

This is a great stock trading idea.

Not ugly yet - Posted by no bull

Yes it is hard and harder to get investor loans but …

Increased regulation only will make the banks FEAR audits more and they keep tightening. as they tighten they can not produce as much income because they originate less to offset the newer regulations and thus they tighten more Bad spiral.

Look for large national banks to begin buying smaller regional banks that are deposit heavy and loan light to offset the balance sheets the bigger banks must have to keep regulators at bay.

Ugly is still coming Look at the news on Freddie and Fannie No bank/market will withstand a collapse of either of these.

Can JP Morgan own them all…? - Posted by JT-IN

Posted by JT-IN on July 10, 2008 at 08:56:34:

Maybe so… cause Citi sure has its plate full right now, so doubtful that they are going to swallow any of these regional players.

Oh, ask BofA how they like the taste of Countrywide about now…

Yep, these stocks may get swallowed up by the big boys, when their value is a LOT LOWER than today’s values… So why invest in what is likely to fall…?

Never catch a falling knife, as has been stated over and over, and these reg banks look to fit that bill, IMO.
