I have never seen nor heard of the situation you describe in your post and to answer your question, assuming cost as a great factor here, I would be tempted to place the condenser on the ground. Check this out for cost and then hit your calculator for profit and see if it is worth it. Good luck, keep us posted,

I am looking at an older DW Repo that appears to have both the furnace and the A/C condenser on top of the roof. There is damage to the roof and signs of apparent damage to the interior ceiling underneath where the unit sits.

First of all, was this construction design common at one time? Second, is the obvious solution the best solution…to reset these units in a safer place (like on the earth’s crust!) Thanks in advance.
