I’m told it’s a way of leveling sidewalks around houses to prevent water from running toward the house. I can’t find any info on it. Perhaps it’s called something else. Thanks!

Steve,

I wonder if what you are asking is about building a hard packed area of topsoil around the house with the soil being packed at an angle to cause water to run away from the house…and thus toward the sidewalk.

Years ago I had a house with concrete block construction for the foundation walls. Whenever we had rain, the basement would get wet both from water coming in between cracks in the foundation wall and from hydrolic pressure pushing it up through cracks in the basement floor.

I ordered a load of topsoil, packed it tightly against the house (higher at the house, lower toward the sidewalk. put in some plants to hold it in place. Problem solved.

It just needed a little additional topsoil packed in place every few years.

Is this what you are asking?
