Anyone use spray-on radiant barrier? - Posted by gerald(tx)

You’re talking about the underside of the roof deck, right? Not the stuff that goes on the ceilings.

I’m not sure about how much of the heat it keeps out, about 11%-13% sticks in my head. Unless you’ve got ridge and soffit vents, and sufficient insulation (I’ve got about R40+ (in the hill country) you won’t notice much from the radiant barrier.

I’m pretty sure it’s more effective than the staple up stuff though, as dust will settle on that and reduce its efficiency by about 40% over about 5 years.

Not sure about pricing though.

I’m thinking about this. Any advice would be appreciated.

Did it provide a significant reduction in your cooling costs? Is it as good as the staple-on type? What kind of cost would be reasonable for a 2500sf one story home?

TIA.
