Whenever the bank is more receptive to selling the note versus doing the short sale. It depends on their particular needs at the time; you won’t know until you ask.

In a foreclosure situation, are there appropriate times to offer to buy the mortgage at a discount from the lender as opposed to doing a standard short sale deal? Short sales are generally done after the default notice. When is the best time to offer to purchase the mortgage from the lender instead.
