One more to add:

  • An employee, or one whom is later held to be an employee, is injured on the job and you are subsequently held liable.

Is it smart to buy houses that you want to rehab and resell in your name? What type of risks could arise from such a purchase?

I used to do that in my name. I usually take title in my corp’s name now, but still buy in my name sometimes. Negatives I see:
-the buyers might be dissatisfied with their purchase down the road and come after me. I think I’m safe, but with my name so easy to find they are more likely to sue.
-if someone’s pipes bust 3 months after purchase they might look you up in the phone book and give you hell.
-your activities are easier to track.
