James: the ones I know about have required cashiers check for the full amount on the day of sale. But I think it varies depending on the seller and the trustee. The terms are typically spelled out in the notice of trustee’s sale. There is usually a phone number posted as well if you have additional questions about the sale.

Does anyone know the typical terms at a trustee auction in California? I was told at some point that I needed 5% of my bid amount, but what about the rest? How long do I have to come up with the balance? That day? Two weeks?
