How about centering the carpeting and putting a row or two of tile around the peramiter.

Folks,

I had a problem, we measured out some rooms for carpet. To make a long story short the store cut the carpet wrong, but they said it is our problem because of the way the measurements were presented.

Anyway we are about 3" short on one side, are there any suggestions on how to mesh it up. We were thinking about building out the trim. Should we put a door transitioner piece along one of the seams? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Or if the installer is good, you can just get another piece of carpeting and fill in the hole.
