Find a licensee with a CCIM designation.
A CCIM, Certified Commercial Investment Member, is to distinguish an expert in the areas of commercial and investment real estate. Becoming a CCIM is considered to be the most pretigious designation in real estate, and less than 1% of real estate licensees hold this designation. Because designees are required to take multiple classes (four intense week long courses), and pass an exam for each, as well as a final accumlative exam, the education is certainly there.
The CCIM organization also, however, requires written verification for proof of commercial related experience (sales, development, leasing, syndicates), totaling an excess of $10m, (soon to be $15m).
CCIMs are usually very experienced professionals who hold themselves to high standards, and most are very successful in there fields. Find one who will work with you, as many CCIMs don’t broker properties (myself included), and use his knowledge and experience.
