quick and dirty, main problem is usually the HOA. Ask to see minutes of meetings for the last 2 years, and budget reports/financials. Often HOA’s are run by only a few residents, who look after their own self interests first and thus the HOA becomes corrupt. also check bylaws; most can raise fees to egregious heights, with a ridiculously low quorum.

Hi,
I’m looking at a condo to buy as my personal residence. I was wondering what insights any of you might have about condo’s. What should I look for, ask, etc. Also, how does insurance and taxes work on a condo. I know there are “condo fees”, what exactly do they cover? Please excuse my ignorance on these and thanks for the help!
