From the look of it, that doesn’t seem to bad.
Alot, of people have started doing REI with 450 credit, and even NO credit.
That’s why it is called “creative” investing.
Go to the search files, and type in the word(s) getting started, credit, and beginning

I know that it doesn’t really take that much money to get started in theory, however, how difficullt is it to get going with a credit score around 650, and a relativley high debt to income ratio i.e. 37-40%.

Like DB stated, a 650 score isn’t all that bad. However, if that is what is stopping you from moving forward, then I suggest you continue reading this site regularly so you don’t have to worry to much about it. There are many ways to get started without going through the process of obtaining a loan. Just don’t let your score go down any further.
