are areas created by the federal government to receive monies, usually matching funds type grants. The general idea is to create jobs in poor areas, like war zones and rural poverty pockets.

There may be some opportunity for real estate, but mostly for job creation.

Does anyone know where I can get info on government grants for low income housing. I have a potential deal in an epowerment zone.

Chuck,
An empowerment zone?
Never heard of that before.
You may want to contact your city, and/or your county.
There are programs out there that have money available for certain things in low income areas.
Also, check with your state legislator for the area and your congress person.
I did that and was able to get a buyer of mine some assistance for buying a home from me.
There may also be some private foundations in your area that have funds available.
You can search online or in the phone book for these.
Also, ask some churchs and other charities in the area.
If they do not have funds, they may know of a local program, either public or private.
In my area there is a foundation called the “Joseph foundation” that provides funds for rehabs in lower income target areas.
I am checking into them now, because I read in the paper where they were approved for a partial grant from our local county, with some federal funds to be sent there way.
Check in your area for the same type of thing, it may exist.

Good luck,
Jim IL
