I have had 2 heat pumps stolen but so far no window units.
I worried about it a little bit at first and went so far as to frame them into one window permanently to keep someone from quickly and easily walking away with it. The last few I just put in the window. Mostly I have the tenants provide their own but in a few units I do provide the window units but I no longer provide heat pumps. The insurance company woudl not cover the loss because it was a rental. That cost me over $2k since I had just replaced that unit a few months earlier.

neighbors around me.I am wondering when mine will be a

of the load…I have purchased a GPS to just hang inside
the
unit and see who is taking them.There is no monthly
service
and it was only $25.Who knows, maybe I will catch a
thief…

In the first 6 months of this year I had 3 outdoor units stolen. I
found a guy on craigslist that will weld me cages for $75 a piece if I
supply the materials. Materials run me about $80 then 3 hours of
my time to install the pad and cage. I haven’t had one stolen since.
I have a feeling your GPS unit would end up at the local scrap yard
within 10 minutes of it’s opening time in the morning. Some
mornings I drive by a local scap yard in cracktown on the way to
some of my units. Always a couple of trucks waiting for the place to
open with A/C units, copper pipes and wiring to sell so they can get
their daily fix.
