I went to my Registry of Deeds today and familiarized myself with the “Grantor’s Index”, which I’ve seen referred to also as “Mortgagor’s Index”.
It was grouped by year. I thumbed through the year 2000, familiarizing myself with the abbreviations, and finding a handful of MTG with a private name next to them.
My question is: Let’s say I collect 100 names of noteholders. Should I cross-reference their address anywhere in some other index to
a. make sure they haven’t moved
b. make sure the mortgage is current and hasn’t yet been paid off
