Lyle and Rich. I guess there might be a good reason not to round file those cards after all.

Any good ideas on how to clean heavy grease off walls and ceilings before painting? It is really thick- like they cooked (burnt) bacon three meals a day with no fan on. Thx in advance

Try a product called TCP. You can find it at lowes in the paint department. Its a prep used to clean walls before you paint them…

How about TSP… (nt) - Posted by Lyal

I think you may be right Lyal. It may be TSP instead of TCP. Not really up on my cleaners… other than just old fashion “elbow Grease”.

trisodium phosphate - it’s not a product, it’s a chemical.

Very break-up-the-clinginess-of-dirt type of stuff. It’s an ingredient in many detergents, and can be bought in a box. Kinda like you can buy borax.
Or viagra. (um . . . maybe that’s different)

Thanks for the replies guys. Never tried tsp, I wonder if it would break down the grease? Worth a try.

Mark,
I just want to underline the “be careful” part. This is harsh stuff but it works great.
All the best, Lyal

It will definitely break down grease/oil when applied with a good scrub brush (see my story below).

CAUTION: It can be caustic, so use heavy duty rubber gloves and eye protection.

I had an insurance agent drive up into my driveway and cold call my house about 20 years ago. After he left when I told him I wasn’t interested, I saw his car had dropped about 4 quarts of oil on the nearly new concrete driveway!

I called him at home, suggested he go check his oil level in his car, and call me back. He called me back in a few minutes, thanking me profusely, and asked what he could do for me. I invited him to come back in his other car. When he arrived, I handed him a can of TSP, a scrub brush, water hose, and a bucket, and said, “Just knock on the door when it’s cleaned up.”

An hour later he knocked on the door (sweating profusely), and proudly walked me to the spot that used to have the stain. The oil stain was virtually gone.

Never saw him again in the neighborhood, though.
