The abstract of the judgement that was originally filed is good enough to refile. It has to be refiled within that 10 year period or it lapses. It can be good for 99 years.

I came across a distrcit Court judgment from Texas. The judgment was entered in 1984 (I do not know if it has be revewed or not). My State’s recording requirements aside, how long is a TX District Court Judgment good for, before it has to be renewed or revived. Also, is it proper procedure (in TX) to calculate the judgment balance by compounding interest annually?

Judgements in Texas are good for ten years unless refiled. Th interest is usually simple not compound.

thanks for the feedback. Would you know if refiling/renewal requires personal service of the defendant? And/or if the judgment must be refiled/renewed within a set time period of expiration?
