Why wouldn’t you recommend renter’s insurance?

Your policy should have fire, as well as other casualty loss. It should be in your coverage details. Ask your agent, and look for it.

I have a rental property that i put a tenant into.I have changed my insurance policy, because i found a better co.that’s cheaper with more coverage. Is there something i should look for in my policy that ensures coverage of the home in case fire etc.I also wanted to know if i should recommend renters insurance to them.

You should tell EVERY tenant when they move in that they should get Renters insurance… in fact, I make them sign a form stating that they have been informed that the landlord carries no insurance for their personal belongings and strongly suggests they purchase renters insurance. They sign it the same time as the lease or they don’t get into the house.

That way, they can’t come back later trying to sue me for lost personal property claiming I told them I had insurance for their stuff.
