Thanks for taking a crack at it. I actually expected more interest in this question in light of Hurricane Isabela. Maybe no one knows for sure.

Thanks for the input.

Does anyone know if a landlord is required to provide any type of protection (boards, shutters, etc.) to a tenant when a hurricane is on the horizon?

I know that it would be in my best interests to do so and all that, but I’m wondering if LEGALLY I am required to do so, especially with Section 8 tenants.

Any thoughts?

No one else has answered this, so I will answer, based on personal experience.

When I rented an apartment on the beach a few years back, Hurricane Floyd decided to pay us a visit. I had to vacate my apartment and move inland for a few days, so I went to Atlanta. My apartment complex did nothing to protect the apartments. They advised us that the hurricane was possibly coming and requested that we move all items off our decks to the inside of the apartment.

Legally, I have no idea. If you want a legal opinion, call a lawyer. Or, go to www.News4jax.com and click on “legal.” Type in your question.

Let us know what you find out.
