Maybe they should check with the state statutes on R.E. Rentals, which are probably on line.

I have heard that it’s illegal in Massachusetts to offer a cash rebate to tenants for paying on time.

Then don’t. Offer them a Discount for paying on time. If it’s 1 day late, full rent. On time or early, pay the discount. No law that I’m aware of says you can’t do that.

Careful here. It is entirely possible Mass. may have such a law. He needs to check with his state authority.

anything is possible. but if discounts are illegal, I think Walmart would be out of business.

There is a little more to it than a Wall Mart discount.

How? You pay me on or before the 1st I give you a $50 discount on the rent. You buy a car today, they give you a $100 discount.
I’m not saying it ain’t against the law, but I would be amazed if it is.
