Patrick -

Thanks for the info. I’m sure that will be very helpful to all of us in MD. I had found that site and used it for checking ownership and statistics about specific properties, but I did not know the code was right there as well!

Where are you located in MD?

Thanks,
Jason

The Code of Maryland Regulations (COMAR) may now be found at http://www.dsd.state.md.us/comar.htm. The search engine for Maryland regulations can be found online at http://209.15.49.5. You may search by alpha (mobile homes) or numeric (05.02.04). Cool!

The following are excerpts from the Maryland Department of the Environment web site on lead paint in rental units. See the site for a more complete discussion.

http://www.mde.state.md.us/was/leadinsp.html

INSPECTIONS FOR RENTAL HOUSING
Maryland laws and regulations regarding the reduction of lead paint risk in rental housing provide for inspections to be conducted at various times. A rental property which was constructed prior to 1950 must meet one of the inspection standards.

The owner of a rental property of more recent construction may decide to have an inspection conducted if there is a concern regarding liability for exposure to toxic lead paint in the property…

LEAD-FREE CERTIFICATION
A property which has been determined to be free of lead paint is exempted both from annual registration fees and from risk reduction requirements…

Contact an accredited lead paint inspection contractor who has been approved by Maryland Department of the Environment to conduct lead paint surveys…

A property which has no lead paint on interior surfaces but does have lead paint on exterior surfaces may qualify for limited lead-free certificate…

There is, however, no obligation under the law to fully remove or otherwise permanently abate all of the lead paint in a rental property.
