Ron,

Must have been my own paranoia showing through… “avoidance” and “evasion” both have the same connotation to me. Your distinction is the more correct one.

thanks,

Can anyone recommend an excellent CPA/Accountant in the Seattle area…one that understands tax avoidance associated real estate investing and also an understanding of corporations.
Also looking for a good Bronchick-like real estate attorney in Seattle.
Thanks to all who respond.

A word about words… - Posted by ray@lcorn

Alexis,

You’ll find no attorney or CPA willing to work on tax avoidance. That is very illegal, and earns special scorn from Uncle.

The term you want to use is “tax reduction”, or “tax deferral.” Both are completely legal, and in fact encouraged, by the Internal Revenue Code.

Tax avoidance is PERFECTLY LEGAL and as you brought out, actually “encouraged” by the IRS and upheld by several Court decisions.

Tax evasion is, of course, ILLEGAL. No professional that cares for his freedom and livelyhood will engage in it, unless he wants a trip to the Federal Retirement Home for Wayward CPAs and Lawyers.

To the orginal poster - ask Joe Kiaser who he uses (he’s still out of jail, isn’t he? ). And get YOURSELF educated as well so you’ll have a good idea what the solution is before you buy time at $100 to $200 an hour.
