I was under the impression that he was already wanting to replace the door. I f that is the case, then why not let the door installers adjust the door an bottom seal to fit the garage flooring?

Hi everybody!
I’m looking to replace my double wide garage door with a new model. I would really like it to seal out all the outside air. However, the floor is uneven. Can anybody recommend a manufacturer/installer in Chicagoland that has a solution? Thanks.

Go to HD and ask for a garage door gasket or weatherstrip. It’s a compressable foam gasket that either attaches to the bottom of the door or the garage floor (don’t recall which?). It will take up a couple inches of gap.

Mark,
I’m not sure where you are in the Chicagoland area, but when I was there just a few short years ago, I used “McKee Door” for all my garage door repairs etc.

I would think they’d either need to place something on the floor of the garage where the door hits, or just use some large weather stripping to seal the cold air out.
If your desire is to keep a decent climate in the garage, be sure to get an insolated door as well.
A little more $$, but worth it, if you need such a thing.

Don’t forget to ask them about “Special offers” or “Scratch and dent” deals.
The last door I bought up north, was for my personal residence.
We needed a single door to cover the opening on the extra garage we had.
I paid $300 for a door that had a slight dent, and scratch on the interior of the door.
It could not be sold as used, so we got a deal.
They installed the door, and I installed the opener.

Check the local new contruction sites as well.
Many times builders have a specific company they use, and the installers do work “side jobs”.
That is where I got my deal above.

Good luck,
Jim FL

Mark:
Do not know about the “Wayne Dalton” in the other post but would suggest that you contact to good vinyl flooring specialist. Before they put down new vinyl they come in and put in a mastic that levels the floor and it works well. They could come and put in a 6 to 8 inch wide strip across the garage where the door seals against the floor and perhaps that would solve the problem without a new door. All you might need is a new rubber seal at the bottom.

Good luck,

Bill H

Look in the phone book for a local Wayne Dalton Dealer. They should be able to help you.
