Depends on what kind of roof. For example, I would never touch a flat roof by myself, but I would consider having my hourly guys do shingles. Then again, my roofer is so cheap that he could probably do it cheaper than my hourly guys anyway. So I might just let him do it.

I do some rehabs myself and if I have to do a roof I use a roofing company I do business with here.
I do pay a bit more than if I used the sub contractors that work for me, but my roofer can knock it out in two days and is heavily insured. And the guy and his crew do quality work.

Roofing is a higher-risk trade. If a cement finisher falls, he gets wet. If a roofer falls, he may be a wet spot. There’s a lot of liability when doing things like this with your own crew. Regular insurance won’t cover accidents, so weigh the savings against the risks.
