The usual timeframe upstate is 6-12 months; I don’t know about Long Island, but it’s probably in the same ballpark.

Here are a couple sites which will give you more information about NY’s foreclosure process:

http://www.stopthesale.com/states/newyork.htm

http://www.cohnroth.com/new_page_3.htm

The first site is a general overview of the process, while the second is from an attorney’s office which handles lots of foreclosures in the state, and has more detailed information from the attorney’s perspective.

NY FORECLOSURE QUESTION??? - Posted by Curtis

Hello all, I have decided to focus on the pre-foreclosure market here in L.I., N.Y. and have been successful at obtaining Lis Pendens and contacting the homeowners. Is anyone familar with the time period in N.Y. from notice of default to sale on the court house steps?? I would like to know how much time (in general) these homeowners are working with. Also, how can I track these Lis pendens from laws suit to sale.

Sincerely,
Curtis
N.Y.
