Lots of rentals that accept dogs in TX. 70-80% of our applicants have pets. We take only certain breeds, but people even with Rotti don’t seem to have a problem renting here.

Didn’t you move to FL temporarily before you moved to CA? There are TONS of rentals in FL, too. Our neighbors with vacant homes are always trying to steal our tenants!

We used to be landlords in CA so we know CA and TX/FL rental markets are two different worlds. In CA, even some lawyers, MDs and college professors can’t afford their own apts and are renting ROOMS! CA landlords think FICO 600 is bad. We get excited when we get an applicant whose FICO is 600. Those with FICO 600 (even lower) bought houses in TX, though some are coming back to the rental market

You don’t need to get so offended at John’s suggestion to ditch the dog. I love dogs and am sure John does, too, so I don’t believe his comment was intended to be insensitive to your understandable affection for your dog. But it’s a sad fact that a tenant with a dog is a higher risk to a landlord than one without. There are lots of rotten and unfair things in this world, and probably trying to rent a place if you have a dog is more difficult than it should be, and that is unfair, I suppose. Your best bet might be to buy your own house so you can have your dog. Can’t afford to buy? Like I said, it’s a rotten world out there and there are no easy answers.

Depends on the location. The areas closer to Orinda are very nice. The areas between I-80 and the Bay are generally crappy with spots of sunlight. Hilltop area is fairly nice, but check for graffiti - its a good indication of unsupervised teens. The worse areas have more than the better areas.

I noted apartment complexes that I know from the experience of having lived here for 20 years are lower crime and in better areas. One, the San Marcos, looks like a condo resort and does not have creepy people hanging around at night.

The advice I was giving was for Michaela, who is in the area looking for a place to live, and our area has all the housing that Berkeley has not allowed to be built through their abusive anti landlord policies. I would not recommend a person with school age children buy here expecting to use the public schools, but those same schools have kept prices from getting too out of hand.

You’re right! I did move to FL, but I’ve always wanted to live in SFO - it’s been my dream - and now it’s turne dinto my nightmare - lol/. Not really! I do love it here and I did find something for another month.

But it’s true - the market here is crazy. If someone else was complaining aobut not being able to find a place I would just think they’re not really trying or not very creative. But since I’m finding this out myself I’m just completely blown away with the local situation.
