Ted, which part of TX do you live in? I have specific information that I can share for the DFW metroplex. Bonus programs, information workshops offered by the Cities, etc.

Best place to find out your specific questions is your local REI.

I’m wondering how to get involved in Section 8 in Texas. Do the houses have to meet some sort of qualification? Is section 8 typically for low income neighborhoods? What gov’t agency do you contact as a landlord looking to get section 8 tenants?

Contact your local HUD office an/or Public Housing Authority (PHA). This is who will handle this. I actually just got off the phone with the PHA office from my state and they were more than obliged to put me an info booklet in the mail today.

Yes the houses have to meet qualification, but they are pretty basic. Section 8 is for low income families, but the house does not neccessarliy have to be in a low income neighborhood. But I think you could probably see a trend if you actually looked at a lot of Section 8 housing.

These links should be of some help.

You can pick up a lot of info by just browsing through these sites, but if you want specifics, I would call.
