Stop the Insanity - Posted by JHyre in Ohio

No, I’m not talking about binge dieting. Rep. Nadler(D) from the Peoples Republic of New York has proposed the following:

  1. Increase the amount of wages subject to 15% Social Security tax from $72,000 to $90,000; and

  2. Let the governemnt “invest” SS proceeds in the market.

This not-so-subtle Socialist money grab is pure disaster if it happens. Even if you do not earn wage income (ala Kiyosaki’s prescient advice), the second part of the proposal will strangle the economy. Where government money goes, destructive political strings will follow. Companies that are not “socially responsible” (e.g.- make a profit) will get hammered. Think of the possibilities- racial quotas enforced, salary caps on “greedy” officers and diktats as to where to invest (China Gooooood, Tobacco Baaaaaad). Basically conbine the efficiency of the post office, the integrity of the Clintons and zealotry of Al Gore with trillions of dollars and control of our economy- the results are predictable to anyone who has the most basic grasp of history.

Oh well, enough ranting. Hopefully the same courageous Senators that let Bubba off the hook will have the sense to block this nonsense. Hopefully.

And we all know how brilliant the federal government is at investing and making money. How would you like to have their balance sheet?

It reminds me of old Slick Willie’s state of the union address and him wanting to invest the budget surplus in the stock market to preserve social security. I guess these guys just don’t realize that this surplus belongs to the taxpayers and not to the government geniuses. Imagine all taxpayers getting a 15% raise by eliminating the @%&^* FICA tax altogether. Imagine us being able to dump that same 15% into an IRA or in RE for 45 working years. We could all be well off and there would be no need for social insecurity.

All of us good supporters of President Clinton should take part in a protest march against the conservatives considering the way ( The gutless bunch caved because of the 2000 FBI files in the white house).
Every Friday Let 's go to the local Federal Courts Building and do a protest march for our hero President Clinton (Rapist in Chief). We are to start at 9:45 ( Be sure to call the TV media ahead of time). Be sure to wear loose fitting pants with a draw string.
At exactly 10:03 all the men will pull the string & drop there pants an continue marching, Women can have a part too, They will remove there blouces & Bra’s and burn their bra’s. All this is to show support for our hero President Clinton. What better way to honor this man?? We’ll do this again next week if we are out of Jail by then. The question is should we all be smoking cigars???

What a stupid idea.

Nice analogy though!!

Is the president behind this too, or … ?

PS - I don’t think it will fly. At all.

Good idea and I agree … except the majority of people in this country would just p*ss it away on beer and pizza and be penniless at retirement. That would cause ALL of us to pay more at some point. There’d be 100x the homeless population.

Sad, but I believe it.

Ah, Rob, you have tripped over the biggest dirty little secret in Washington.

There is NO surplus. The Social Security Fund is still well underfunded (and off budget) - but they keep using Social Security taxes as part of the general fund to say there is a surplus in the general fund.

If you or I kept our business books this way, we’d go to jail.

Redline,

I agree that chances for passage are slim- BUT you never know in politics, especially when the “opposition” is fairly craven. At least my Congressman (Oxley) is against it and he has the guts to back his principles. Hopefully the Republicans have not completely forfeited their collective backbone.

Predictably, Clinton IS behind it. I’ll keep y’all posted.

I believe it too. I know too many people who get christmas bonuses and income tax refunds who think that extra money means they can go buy a new car and take the family on a cruise to the Bahamas instead of even considering saving or investing the money. I also realize that the federal governments chances of giving us a tax cut are about as good as President Clinton’s chances of controlling his hormones while his wife is on the Senate campaign trail.

You are absolutely right, sad to say. - Posted by JHyre in Ohio

Reif,

Imagine if a car repairman charged you to fix your car after HE broke it and LIED to you about it for about 40 years. He’d need a good dentist after I got through with him. Exactly this behavior is the norm in Washington. You’re right, if we kept our books the way the government does, we would very literally go to prison for fraud. Grrrrrrrr- this gets my blood pressure up.
