What Lyal said!

Just ask them at the same time that you tell them to have their INSURANCE CARRIER, not the contractor, fax you over a copy of their LIABILITY INSURANCE.

Without both in your hand they should not be on your property!

Or if they are a business just their ein? It is the first time I am asking for this. Do you run into problems when you ask?

if they are inc or llc you don’t need to do a 1099. you can use either their EIN or SSN but you need one. If you paid them less than $600 no 1099 is needed.

Have them fill out a W-9. If they baulk, you probably don’t want to use them anyway.
