I know BFP is one of your pet subjects, but it is very uncommon in my experiences over 52 years, so I would consider them unique on that basis.

I only saw/heard of one case, and I used to follow the real estate cases in the two counties in the SF Bay area I did most of my business in. That one case involved a buyer who thought he was buying from the owner, but the real owner was the occupant who never recorded the deed.

Now I know you know the results, the new buyer lost because possession was considered notice, and the new buyer didn’t confirm the occupants status.
