You might have better luck for Versa Check MICR toner at this site:
http://www.usaplaza.com/mipsdla/shopping.htm
But it’s not easy to find. Basically had to “order” from their other site to locate the toner accessories.

Versa Check - Posted by MichaelR (NoVA)

Just saw the messages about stores reading checks printed from Versa Check. The issue can easily be resolved by ordering a magnetic toner catridge for your laser printer. Ordinary toner only has a small magnetic component to it, and won’t show up on most scanners.
Not sure of a source off-hand.

Magnetic Ink Source - Posted by Mr Donald

Yep. It requires “magnetic ink” to scan properly.
Try this source. Works for my LaserJet 4000. Somewhat pricey - but such is life.
