Dew,
Chances are you called them on an 800 number. It costs them not you, so just stay on the line. Now, I have done this a couple times, I wouldn’t sit there, but maybe putthem on speakerphone while watching TV or something. Rememebr the longer you are on hold the more it costs them
has anyone had any experience trying to negotiate a reinstatement with them? Can’t even get them to answer the phone–on hold for an hour! What’s up with that??? Anyone have a name and number of a real person there? Thanks in advance!

Try calling HUD directly - that’s how I got my calls answered. Their main number is 888-297-8685. Washington Mutual made a mistake on their calculations, and I had to get HUD to call them to straighten them out, since it was an FHA insured loan.
Even if these are not the numbers you need, they may be able to transfer you directly to another human being. I also try different extensions (one up or down from the ones I am given) and sometimes get lucky reaching someone in the same department.
