What is ETAL? - Posted by Jim LaVerdi

I have been searching some information on different properties in my state of Arizona. When I search under the owners name some of the names are followed by ETAL. What does this mean? Thanks for the help.

Jim,
I didn’t have Latin in school, but I think it should be two words - et al. I’ve always believed it to mean “and others”. Meaning the owners and their heirs/successors.

Et al does indeed mean “and others” but it isn’t restricted to heirs and successors. It usually means more than one owner on the deed and they can be partners, co-owners, significant others, etc.

Hope this helped

Although you may know this, others may not.

(after a mans name) the letters “et. ux.” means “and spouse”.

Hope this helped… someone.

Merry Christmas

Lee,

Your definition of ?et ux? is close but not exactly correct. ?Et ux? is the abbreviation of the Latin ?et uxor?, and is the legal term for ?and WIFE?. ?Et con? is the abbreviation of the Latin ?et conjunx?, and is the legal term for ?and husband?. I don?t know if there is a legal term for ?and spouse?. Perhaps Bill Bronchick or some other attorney who visits this site can elaborate. By the way, ?et al? is the abbreviation of the Latin ?et alii?, not that anyone should really care.

Best of Success!!
