Who pays forTitle Insurance is decided by what’s written in thecontract for sale. In ome areas of the country, it’s customary for seller to pay, in some areas it’s customary for buyer to pay. You need to check with the closing agent(hopefully prior to making your offer). If you pay, just adjust your offering price to allow for this fee.

Jane,
In Texas, it’s fairly typical that the seller pays for the title policy, although it is negotiable. However, I usually pick it up on both the buy and sell side. When I’m buying, it’s just easier to talk a net number with the seller as opposed to detailing all the costs that will come out of their proceeds. And when I’m selling, it’s “expected” that I will pay it. I’m sure others will have differing opinions, but that’s how I do it.
