Bill, Yes wood shingles can be repaired. However, this would depend on the extent of the damage. The repair should also be done by a pro. The cost of replacing a wood shingle roof can be quite expensive. If the damage is not to extensive I would recomend that you try to repair it. If not and this is an investment and not a home I would think of trying a different type of roof system.

Has anyone had any experience with repairing these roofs? My question is on a house I am doing. Some say they can be successfully repaired, others say that they should be replaced. Its approx 20 years old. Thanks in advance for the information
What state are you in? Insurance companies in some states either won’t write a policy on wood roofs, or make it difficult to do so. This may have a bearing on your decision.
In some areas of the country, a 20 yr old wood roof would be near the end of its life; and you would be better off replacing than repairing if you are holding on to the property.
Also, as wood roofs age, they require more and more routine maintenance.
I can be more specific on this subject, if you need additional information.
