Aluminum Wiring - Is it a big deal? - Posted by CR Tulsa

I have a rental that is aluminum wiring. I’ve had the house for 8 years without any electrical problem.
Aluminum was pretty common in the early 70s. The problem with aluminum was that it expanded and contracted with the temperature changes of summer to winter, more-so than copper. Was blamed for some fires. However provided the house is wired correctly, it shouldn’t be a problem. Some people tighten their connections once/year or so to be safe.
Not sure if it would matter with your future buyers lender.

I performed a search on aluminum and aluminum wiring and found nothing on this topic.

I have a sub2 pending on a house, but found out today that it has aluminum wiring for everything but the A/C and Dryer, which has copper.

Is aluminum wiring a big deal? What are my risks?’

Thank you in advance for your reply.

CR,

I also had an investment property with aluminum wiring.

I bought and sold it off without a problem.

Its not the best conductor of electricity, but if the wiring was done correctly you should never see a problem.

Best of luck,
