Any person of legal age, including yourself, may be a trustee. Corporations acting as trustee requires special filing as a matter of law.
Having said this, I would be very careful in choosing a trustee and I definitely would not choose someone with a criminal record no matter what the offense or personal relationship might be.

So can anyone be a trustee or are there qualifications you have to meet beforehand? I’m sure it has to be someone 18 or over, but is there anything else?
I’m pretty sure anyone can be a trustee. The person must be independent. Must not engage in any self-dealing or do anything that would endanger the trust property. There are certain criteria that the trustee must follow, in terms of how they handle the trust property, but I need to look at my books to give you a more in depth answer. Feel free to email me if you have further questions.
