I appreciate the input from others here talking about John Schaub.

For me at least, I enjoy what I have learned from the instructors in the EMI (Enlightened Millionaire Institute). Mark Victor Hansen co-author of “Chicken Soup for the Soul” teams with Robert Allen to help investors make money that they can donate to their favorite charity. Willingly earning to give it away makes them “Enlightened.”

Besides Real Estate investing, they also teach about building your independence in other markets…like the stock market and the internet. The EMI REAL ESTATE course provides several live weekly telephone-in classes and Q&A help sessions. The instructors on these calls are experienced active investors, knowledgeable and more importantly, INCREDIBLY patient when answering even the most basic questions. After a while, I believe the Carlton Sheets program began to charge us whenever we phoned in for assistance.

If you are in California, I found TheNorrisGroup (TNG)in Riverside, CA led by Bruce Norris great source of information and training pertinent to the California marketplace.

I must agree with others who commented Carlton Sheet’s courses basic. As for their “mentoring program” that was a disappointment, especially with a lagging start-up time to assign you to an instructor. And when finally assigned, you were past the time that would otherwise permit you to backout and get a refund. Getting my feet wet and only have books and videos, I found the 12 week duration short and the specificity of help provided weak (My instructor also spoke with a heavy accent). To their credit, the mentoring work book was helpful when I started out.

Since I am in California, help and information for my inflated marketplace was lacking. For example the books talk about buying 3-bedroom homes for under $100,000. At that time we in california had to pay $250,000+ for the same property. I tried in vain asking to get in touch with a community of other California Real Estate investors enrolled with Sheets. Successful or simply enrolled, I found none. And the Sheet’s staff could (or would)not provide any such contact.
