You may want to consider other methods. My only knowledge of placing ads in mailboxes is what is stated by J. Burley in this link, maybe you can get a few other ideas from this to work out your advertizing:
“Beware: In the United States the US Postal Service considers it a felony to tamper with the mail. If you live in the US do not place your flyers or hangers in people’s mailboxes.”
I know putting material inside someone’s mailbox is not kosher with our mail people, but what about placing something on the outside of the box? I was thinking of putting some fliers under the red flag on the outside of the box. Anyone have any experience with this?

I don’t know if it’s illegal or not but I do know that it happens all the time. We get fliers/ anywhere from 1 to a small bundle on a regular basis. People tuck them between the flag and the box.
Be careful to not go into neighborhoods where no solicitation is posted though.
