I’ve noticed some properties in my area
that have overdue county taxs for several years running.
I was under the impression that tax sales were pretty much automatic after a period of time, a number of legal warnings, and siezure by the taxing authorities. Are some smaller properties not worth the tax man’s time?
These are mostly vacant residential so I know they’re not homesteads.

In Texas the process of foreclosure to collect deliquent taxes is a judicial one. The taxing authority hires a law firm to take it to court. if the amount is small it may be several years before they file. They may also try to get some type of payment plan.
