You must check with your local zoning department. To my knowledge there is no set acreage anywhere…all land is zoned by local authority…some 1 house per 5 acres, some 1 house per ten acres, some one house per half acre, etc.

Go tell them where the property is located, they will look it up on the zoning maps and tell you what you can and cannot do with it.

My father is looking to buy land in SE Ohio. He wants to know if there is a minimum size before can split land into equal parcels. In Ca it is 5 acre min in most areas, does Oh have such a rule?

The sub dividing of land in SE Ohio is subject to specific rules. The rules are variable from county to county, and sometimes by townships. Check with the county auditor in the county where the land is located. They will be able to answer your questions, or direct you to the proper person who can give you the answers that you need.
