I suspect this is a state lien which in certain instances may have priority over the tax lien (the general rule is “first in time first in right”). It is also possible the state was joined as a defendant and the lien would be cut off by the foreclosure action. Above all these questions and ambiguities should be resolved prior to the sale to avoid beating yourself up afterwards.

Hi,

Top of the day to everyone.

I recently attended a city tax foreclosure auction. There was a particular property that I noticed. It was in a good area and abandoned.

I search at the county clerks office and found that there was a criminal lein against the property for $48100, so I did not bid on it.

Anyway the property sold for $9500. What do you think, did I miss a deal or just saved myself some heart ache?

Any reply is appreciated.
