In the context I saw that term used, it seemed like an actual trust in itself, but perhaps what the person meant was a type of trust that encompassed several.

Look at Bill Gatten’s site. He works with an “Illinois land trust” that is refered to sometimes as an equity holding trust.

Got me. That name doesn’t tell me the purposes of the trust, or whether its revocable or irrevocable (very important!).
